A spectacular and rare French clock of marble and dore bronze by renowned Parisian ebeniste and artisan Paul Sormani, paying tribute to the master Michelangelo. The languid figures of Night and Day are a clothed interpretation of Michelangelo's sculpture (created 1526-33) that graces the tomb of Giuliano de Medici in the De Medici Chapel in San Lorenzo, Florence. The clock itself is equipped with a 30-day movement and bell-striking on the hour and half hour.
Mounted on the front is a plaque which reads, 'MICHEL-ANGE ANNO 1474-1564 ROME.' The enamel dial is signed, 'Sormani, Paris.' Circa 1870.
Paul Sormani is known to most for his incredible furnishings, most of which were beautifully interpreted reproduction
