A marvelous and rare Staffordshire ironstone punch bowl by Mayer's pottery measuring an incredible 21 1/4" in diameter. Raised on colorful dolphin feet, this superb punchbowl features transfer-printed decoration of "Bacchic Revels" enhanced by a polychrome overglaze. This intriguing design was awarded a gold medal at the celebrated 1851 Crystal Palace Exhibition in London. An identical punchbowl is part of the prestigious Dufour-Woolfley Collection at the New Orleans Museum of Art. Fully marked on the interior of the base, 'Mayer's Real Ironstone/New York Office.'
