PROVENANCE: Empress Eugenie, Farnborough Hill, Hoarcross Hall, Staffordshire.
This magnificent rosewood armoire was made for and owned by Empress Eugenie, wife of Emperor Napoleon III. The armoire bears the hallmarks of resplendent furnishings made specifically for the French Royal House, including the crossed “L” on the doors representing Louis XIV and his passion for lavish interiors. An exceptional example of craftsmanship and design, the depth of hand-carving imparted on this armoire is exquisite and its size is monumental. Fine rosewood furnishings are some of the most sought after on the market. Coupled with royal provenance, this armoire is superb.
