This important manhogany cabinet by English maker William Bertram of Dean Street, Soho, is crafted in the Etruscan style and handsomely decorated with wonderful hand-painted ivory plaques and dramatic carved ebony accents. Each of the plaques depicts a different mythological scene and is protected by a domed glass cover. The cabinet also features a series of eight fitted drawers hidden behind the secret center panel. Renewed interest in Roman and Greek themes fueled the popularity of the Etruscan style which was often characterized by simple elegance based on a classical symmetry of design. Cabinets of this caliber by a known, respected maker are exceedingly hard to find. The cabinet is signed and remains in superior condition.
