An historic document bearing the royal wax seal of King Louis XVIII of France to William Lawless, Irish and French Revolutionary. The document is a lettre de declaration de naturalite and is dated 1815. It is signed by the Chancellor of France, Charles Henri Dambray, on behalf of the King. Louis XVIII served a brief term as King of France and Navarre from May 2, 1814 until March 20, 1815. William Lawless was a French Revolutionary soldier from Ireland who commanded Napoleon's Irish Legion and even received the prestigious Legion of Honor for his battlefield bravery. Upon the return of Louis XVIII, the Irish Legion swore their allegiance to the new King and were later disbanded on September 28, 1815.
