Always gearing production to suit changes in tastes and styles, this Handel hanging lamp is an early example of the en vogue movement towards hand painted glass fixtures with striking decorative leaded overlay. First appearing in the 1904 Handel catalog, and for the 15 years that followed, it was evident that ‘Arts & Crafts’ lighting of both geometric and floral design were not only fashionable but highly sought after as well. Two years later, in 1906, the Handel design department created a shade called Teroca that allowed for more intricate and creative painted scenes within the leaded overlay. This particular hanging lamp is a superb example of Handel Teroca, illuminating colors of reds, oranges and yellows through its
