A dandy silver-over-bronze casting of a young Henry IV, the first of the French Bourbon Kings, by artist François Joseph Bosio (1768-1845). Sometimes referred to as the most popular French king in history, anecdotes and legends often refer to Henry IV's gallantry, wit and concern for the common people. Bosio enjoyed the patronage of the Bonapartes, the Bourbons and Louis Philippe over the course of four decades. He ranks as the most highly decorated sculptor of his generation and produced a number of statues representing the Bourbons past and present as well as busts of the Imperial family. Excellent condition. Signed Bosio.
