Limoges has been one of Europe’s largest centers of
p o rcelain since the discovery of kaolin (the key
ingredient in the making of porcelain) in 1771. That
same year, Anne Robert Jacques Turgot, Limoges’
financial officer, opened the Limoges Porcelain
Manufactory to generate revenue into the region. This
pivotal moment pushed the region of Limoges into the
