This beautifully crafted 18th-century Swedish rococo commode features intricate inlays of ebonized and fruitwoods and is embellished with exquisite doré bronze mounts and hardware of the highest order. Swedish designers were particularly influenced by French craftsmen and this commode exhibits the wonderful bombé shape and classic bronze hardware attributed to the era of Louis XV. The pine interior of the chest is Scandinavian in origin, for its abundant pine forests proved a rich resource for the region’s furniture makers. Of fine scale and proportion, this is a superb example of 18th- century Continental furnishings.
