A World War II British submarine brass sextant, complete with its original carrying case and calibration record. Invented in 1730, the sextant is a hand-held optical instrument used in navigation by measuring the angles and celestial bodies above the horizon from the observer's position. The sextant is so named because the original design was designed on a calibrated 60 degree arc, which was one-sixth of a circle. Excellent condition. Circa 1940.
